Computers 101

Leon's Mom came to school to explain how computers work.

We got to see the inside of a computer.
Mother board, hard drive, memory...  new vocabulary to wonder about...

Thank you, Tatiana!

Day 2

Today the children got to hold the baby chicks.
There was a lot of handwashing going on.
What a learning experience this has been!

"Peep, peep" said the chicks...

The eggs are hatching... this morning there were two chicks already hatched and the third hatched right before the children's eyes!! By day's end there were nine and another about to crack open. The children are more than excited. Tomorrow they will be able to hold them.... very carefully!!

We will return the chicks to Casey Farm on Friday.
Please be sure that you have returned your child's permission slip.
Hopefully we will have a beautiful May day to enjoy on the farm!

Learning about Our Place in Space

The children had a blast at the Planetarium. The show was terrific! Thank you to our chaperones Dave, Deb and Beth!!  We saw stars, stars and more stars on the dome-shaped ceiling.  It was awesome.

The children enjoyed helping Scarlet, a macaw, try to solve a crossword puzzle about the sky during "Our Cosmic Journey in Space."  Friends in the animal kingdom helped to explore the cause of day and night, the importance of our star the Sun, the beauty of the constellations, and the variety of objects that make up the universe.

We will be finishing up our study of the solar system during the next few weeks.  This field trip was a fantastic culminating experience.

We were able to go on a scavenger hunt after the show in the Planetarium.  The children enjoyed exploring the varied exhibits.  This museum is just minutes from the school.  This would be a fun day trip during the summer.

Mama Love

The children worked so hard to prepare for this special day.
They enjoyed making their book just for you!

I found this lovely poem and wanted to share it with you.

These are the years, the gentle years,
The soft and sentimental years
When wee little fingers
Reach and touch
And little eyes gaze
With wonder and trust,
When you love so tenderly
And so so much,
These are the gentle years.

These are the years, the rainbow years,
The quiet, walk-on-tiptoes years,
And smiles and sighs
When both of you watch
With misty eyes
The tiny bed
Where a cherub lies,
These are the rainbow years.

These are the years, the tender years,
The blissful, sweet-surrender years,
When your little treasure
From above
Is the soul and purpose
And center of
Your plans and dreams
And dearest love,
These are the tender years.
