"Down the street the firefighters go..."

The Kindergarten class visited the Rochambeau fire station yesterday.  It was a great day!  We would like to thank our Moms and Grandmoms who helped us walk there safely.   Also, we will send along a big thank you to the firefighters who made our field trip so much fun!

Tree of Seasons

The Kindergarten class has adopted a tree in the upper playground.  We will observe this tree throughout the school year and make a pictorial journal.  We have already sketched it twice and have seen some significant changes!  Isn't our tree beautiful?

Solid, liquid, gas?

We had a special visitor in Kindergarten yesterday... Science Mom!!  Kristin Rosler, Zosia's mom, will be joining our class on Thursdays to enhance our science curriculum.  Wearing a shirt with the periodic table imprinted on it, Kristin proceeded to explain how 114 elements show up in one of three forms in the world around us.  We experimented with gases yesterday.  We watched as a balloon filled up with gas after dropping an antacid tablet into a bottle of water.  The kids were more than excited... I think I heard them chanting "We love science, we love science..."  Thank you, Kristin.

The apple tasting results are in.... YELLOW wins!!

The children participated in an apple tasting activity yesterday.  They got to taste a piece of a Red Delicious, a Golden Delicious and a Granny Smith apple.  We explored the flavors, textures, colors, and sizes of this familiar fruit. Seven children voted for the Golden Delicious apple.  Even though their faces scrunched up while tasting the Granny Smith, six children voted for the green apple.  The children enjoyed watching our "Favorite Apple" graph change after each group of children had their turn to tasteIt was almost too close to call!

A round of applause please...

Please be sure to thank Dave Rosler, Zosia's Dad, for burning DVD's of the Open House slideshow for all of our families.  I put the DVD in an envelope in your child's homework/communication folder today.

Apples rich and red and round...

Our field trip to Dame Farm was so much fun.  We got to ride on a horse-drawn wagon into the orchard.  We sang songs and enjoyed the beautiful view of the changing leaves all around us.  We picked apples, saw a really big pumpkin patch and a corn maze.  It was a great day for everyone!

What a weekend!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I sure did!  The weather was perfect.  I got to spend some time with good friends, go to Waterfire and to a Celtics pre-season game.  While at the game, I think I saw one of my students on the JumboTron!!

JCDS Fire Station Opens

Thank you to all who sent in fire station related props.  The children are having fun pretending to be firefighters.  I am so lucky to be the one to hear the conversations that happen in the Dramatic Play area!  A field trip to the Rochambeau fire station is being planned.  I will let you know when I hear back from the Providence Fire Department.

Open School Night

I would like to thank all of the parents who attended Open School Night last night.  It was so nice to see so many families represented.  I am delighted to be your child's Kindergarten teacher.  We are going to have a fun-filled year growing, learning and getting to know each other.
