W-A-T-E-R

The most important thing on our planet!! WATER... At our last meeting with Science Mom, we talked about water. We learned that it freezes and that it floats. We put our hands in really cold water. There was ice floating in it. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr..... On one hand we wore a "blubber glove" and nothing on the other hand. We learned how animals can live and swim in freezing cold temperatures because they have a layer of blubber under their skin.
We also did an experiment with snow.  We had 2 containers of snow.  One was the "control".  The other was the experiment... by adding salt to the snow, we learned how salt breaks the hydrogen bonds which then melts the snow.
Cool stuff!!

January's Author Study

We are having fun learning about Ezra Jack Keats.  The children listened to The Snowy Day at the listening center.  Their favorite part was when the snow fell on top of Peter's head.  This week we will listen to Pet Show.
Check out the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation at http://www.ezra-jack-keats.org/.

The Doctor is in...

Thank you to Eliana's dad, Abby's mom and Emmi's mom for sending in props for us to use in our Doctor's office.  The children are enjoying this new dramatic play center.  The conversations are priceless...

Calling all doctors, nurses....

Our Dramatic Play area will become a Doctor's office for the month of January. Any props you can send in for the children to play with would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Wishing you and your family a year filled with
happiness, joy and love.

Snowman Name Graph

The wall outside our classroom looks like winter.  Brrrrr...  The children enjoyed making their name graph snowmen.  Which snowman was the tallest?  Which was the shortest?

Future engineers? architects?

The children enjoyed stacking sugar cubes to try to make towers as tall as they could before they tumbled over.  Then, with the use of frosting, they were able to "cement" the cubes together and continue building.  It was very interesting to watch their ideas of how to build the tallest tower.  FUN!
